AN INDIAN COLONIAL SILVER TEAPOT AND STAND**
CUTCH OR BOMBAY, CIRCA 1900, MARK OF VK
The spherical teapot set on four scroll feet, the angular handle with ivory insulators, with bird's-head spout and hinged cover, chased throughout with scrolls on a stippled ground depicting a boar and deer hunt, with a vacant cartouche on one side, the circular stand with conforming scroll decoration, and with a circular central cartouche, marked on reverse of stand
The teapot 8½ (21.6 cm.) long; 23 oz. (729 gr.) gross weight (2)

Specialist note

Silver by maker VK is illustrated in Wynyard Wilkinson, Indian Silver 1858-1947, 1999, p.p. 89 and 92. According to Wilkinson, this silversmith's work is of a uniformly high standard. An Indian colonial butter cooler with chased hunting scenes sold Christie's, New York, 23 October 2008, lot 115.
