The case modelled with Cupid riding a lion-drawn chariot the six-spoked pierced wheel with a white enamel circular Roman chapter ring, above a rectangular plinth applied with foliage and winged lions, on paw feet, eigth day twin barrel movement with silk suspension and countwheel strike on bell; pendulum, winding key

Specialist note

The winged Cupid with the lion is emblematic for love, and relates to the notion that 'love conquers all', drawn from Ovid and Virgil. Various related models are known, all featuring Cupid riding Apollo's chariot and mostly embellished with Love attributes, therefore this model is generally described as pendule au char de l'Amour.
