A PAIR OF SWEDISH PARCEL-GILT COMPOSITION AND WHITE PAINTED ARMCHAIRS
Late 19th century
Each with a curved padded back and seat covered in remnants of floral watered silk and cotton, with husk-carved toprail and lion's head terminals, on tapering reeded and palm-flower headed baluster legs (2)

Specialist note

These Grecian-scrolled chairs, evoking poetry's triumph with laurel-wreathed frames and bacchic lion-heads, relate to chairs commissioned in the early 19th century for Rosersberg Palace by Prince Carl, later Carl XIV of Sweden (d.1818) and probably supplied by Ephraim Stahl (d. circa 1820).
