Specialist note

The wave-like effect created by the layered silk was called Kolpos by the Ancient Greeks, on which Fortuny modeled his Delphos gowns. This particular shape was popular in the 1910s, and not dissimilar to the lamp-shade effect Poiret was creating in Paris.

de Osma, 'Mariano Fortuny: His Life and Work;' p139 for a one-piece example, gathered over a belt.
