Lambeth Palace has been the historic London residence of the Archbishops of Canterbury since the 13th century. In the 1830s the famous architect Edward Blore (d. 1879) was commisioned to restore and build onto the 'miserably deficient' palace in the gothic style, work which included the restoration of the 15th century Guard Room, featuring a table virtually identical to the present lot.
