Each of amphora form, with waisted nozzle, husk-cast and upswept acanthus-wrapped handles issuing a foliate garland, surmounted by a later moulded drip-pan, above a flowerhead-filled guilloche and beaded collar, on a waisted socle surmounted by acanthus leaves, on a square stepped plinth with fluted rim

Specialist note

The Boulton garniture displays 'Apollo' laurels festooning the blue john krater-vases, which are wreathed by a pearled and flowered ribbon-guilloche and stand on Grecian double-stepped plinths. The laurels festoon from the handles' flowered and acanthus-wrapped volutes, that are reed-tied to the vases's hollowed necks.
A closely related pair with white marble instead of blue john was sold anonymously, '50 Years of Collecting: Decorative Arts of Georgian England', Christie's, London, 14 May 2003, lot 101 (£33,460 with premium).
