Specialist note

Based on the tale by Ershov, this ballet was first performed at Moscow's Bolshoi Theatre in 1901 with scenery and costumes by K. Korovin. The first performance in St. Petersburg was in 1912, with a revival at Moscow's Experimental Theatre in 1928.
