Typically modelled standing with its left forepaw balanced on a ball, its tail curled up on to its back, on a rectangular plinth moulded with stylised tendrils and scrolling foliage

Specialist note

Benjamin Plant is listed as a pottery worker in 1818 and a potter's presser in 1822, although there is no known manufacturer working under this name. See Pat Halfpenny, English Earthenware Figures 1740-1840 (Suffolk, 1991), pl. 207 for a marked undecorated pearlware lion and p. 209 for a discussion of this potter.
