Specialist note
See J. Reade, Assyrian Sculpture, British Museum, London, 1983, p. 55, for the original relief panel of the Dying Lioness (inv. WA124856). The Dying Lion panel can also be found at the British Museum (inv. ME 1992-4-4.1). Both panels were from a series of wall panels from Ashurbanipal's palace, dated circa 645 B.C., that showed a royal lion hunt.
