With reeded and chevron borders, the back-plate stamped 'Carron 38'

Specialist note

This firegrate conforms to a Carron Company design in the Scottish Record Office. Founded in 1759 by John Roebuck, Samuel Garbett and William Cadell the company enlisted the Adam brothers to provide ornamental designs for firegrates and pedestal stoves.
