The son of Antonio Cortés, an artist in the Spanish Royal Court, Edouard began his studies at the age of 17 at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. His first exhibition in 1901 brought him immediate recognition.
During Cortés' early lifetime, Paris was the centre of the art world. From the turn of the century, Cortés began to paint the innumerable views of the Parisian cityscape that would make him famous. He captured skillfully the bustling streets and the vigour of Parisian life. He continued to explore the subject of Paris during all its seasons until his death in 1969, leaving behind a legacy of some of the most beautiful images of this genre.
