A 19th century scrimshaw decorated walrus' tusk**
Edward Barnes; circa 1863
engraved along the two sides and inscribed on one edge; the first side with traditional images of anchors, flowers, a whale ship in the artic, walrus on either side of the signature in an oval, a whale swimming and spouting; on the other side images of a woman, one in full length fancy dress, flowers, a cat [indistinctly named], fish a [blue] whale and other decorative motifs. Inscribed along the edge: "carved on the tusk of a walrus killed in the Artic region Sept 1863".
