Antoine Salomon has confirmed the authenticity of this work.
To the left is the painter Bonnard, seen in three-quarter profile, having tea with Misia Natanson, who is sensuously leaning back in a wicker chair. This drawing is a study for Vuillard's painting L'heure du Thé II of 1897-99, which is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art (Salomon & Cogeval VI-83). Three similar versions of the subject are in private collections (Salomon & Cogeval VI-81,82 & 84).
