Helen Levitt (b. 1913)

Helen Levitt accompanied Walker Evans on his first foray into the New York City subway with a hidden camera. She served as his first test subject and as a foil in his quest to capture subjects unaware in their commuting reveries. Later, Evans allowed Levitt to experiment with the set-up as well. Signed vintage prints such as the present lot are very rare.
