Specialist note

These intriguing still life studies are stamped ESK, meaning that they were done whilst at the Ecole South Kensington. The excellence of the draughtmanship is undoubted, and these may be early watercolours by someone in the circle of Thomas Hartley Cromek (1809-1873), whose work had the same marvellous simplicity, but still maintained a close attention to detail.
