Specialist note

We are grateful to Dr. A.C. Steland for suggesting that the artist of the present composition may be either a French or Flemish painter who was familiar with Van Swanevelt's oeuvre. She points out that the figures of Tobias and the Angel are close to Van Swanevelt's staffage in paintings from his Parisian period.
