JIAQING PERIOD, CIRCA 1798
Painted with the arms of Duncan quartering Beveridge and Murray with Marshall quarterly in pretence to each side of the cooler, as well as to the interior of the cover and liner, between gilt and blue line borders, the sides with gilt shell handles and the cover with a gilt loop handle

專家說明

The coat-of-arms belongs to James Duncan (1757-1815), of the Duncan family of Galloford, Seaside and Damside, Scotland, a branch of the Lundie family. James, born James Beveridge, adopted the name Duncan in 1798 upon inheriting the estate of his cousin, Patrick Duncan. The arms in pretence belong to his wife, Elizabeth, whom he married in 1785. Howard, Chinese Armorial Porcelain, London, 1974, p. 1001, no. W4.
