Each octagonal and applied with a band of trailing vine, the stands on four ball feet, the tureens on four cast lion's paw and Egyptian sphinx mask feet, with lion's mask and drop-ring cornucopia handles, the covers with serpent handles above a calyx of peapods and foliage, each applied with a coat-of-arms within a drapery cartouche, marked on foot-rim, base, side handles, cover, cover calyx and finial

TUREEN DESIGN
The design for these coolers may be attributed to French-born designer Jean-Jacques Boileau (fl.c.1787-1851), originally a mural painter, he came to England to assist the architect Henry Holland in the decoration of the Prince of Wales's Carlton House, King George IV's great palace in St. James's. Boileau also worked on the decoration at Woburn Abbey, Windsor Castle, and William Beckford's Fonthill Splendens, where he created exotic interiors in the Turkish taste. A number of metalwork designs attributed to Boileau are in the Victoria and Albert Museum. They form part of a portfolio of drawings used by the Royal Goldsmiths, Rundell Bridge and Rundell. The attribution was made by Michael Snodin in his article 'J. J. Boileau: A Forgotten Designer of Silver', The Connoisseur, June 1978, pp. 124-133.
