Where Salvo, even when wanting to suggest plastic reliefs, lay down shadows, direct or applied, resorts to a supplement of colour and light. Indeed, there is no difference between the two terms, in him colour is light, light is colour, as it seems useless to go in search of an external and trivially physical source of light; the light, now, is supplied directly from the inside, as happening precisely in the cathode tubes constituting videos; there is a mental-electronic God who floods Salvo's volumes with his beneficial rays, and therefore, with one hand, gives them a thickness, a relief, but with the other brings them back to the flatness of the essences staying in a hyper uranium. [...] In appearance, the works of this series would seem to border on geometric abstraction, offering not much more than an orchestration of tiles, rectangles and lozenges, thin parallelepipeds placed in balance with each other, at various heights. But it would be pointless to focus attention on the lines and volumes, given that what matters in the first place is the intensity of emission which those neon lights prove to be capable of. After all, in other seasons other artists had thrown in the towel, preferring to insert neon "as is": think of Dan Flavin. With Salvo, once again, we are at the miracle of introjection, at the case of an artist who has assimilated those energy sources, has consubstantiated them with his own sensory system, and is now master of using them internally, of pouring them onto every external object, making it translucent, immaterial while respecting its normal conformation: physical and metaphysical at the same time.
