Cartier has a famed Métiers d’Art department where artisans use traditional decorative techniques to create elaborate and intricate decorations on watch dial and cases. This particular Santos model features the delicate art of wood marquetry.
An art form that can traces it origins back to 2500 BC, marquetry involves the use of different shades of a natural material that is cut into tiny pieces which are then fit together to form a pattern or design.
The present timepiece features a marquetry dial and an engraved case that is partially paved with diamonds and is a limited edition of just 30 pieces.
