JAN BOECKHORST (MÜNSTER C. 1604-1668 ANTWERP)

This composition repeats in reverse an oil sketch by Sir Peter Paul Rubens (Museo Nacional del Prado, Madrid), which served as a model for one of a series of twenty tapestries for the Monastery of the Descalzas Reales in Madrid. The composition was subsequently engraved by Schelte Adamsz. Bolswert in the same sense as the present painting.
