Rare true first edition of "Jekyll and Hyde," preceding the English edition by four days. A lovely copy in original cloth. 1250 copies in cloth were published by Scribner's on 5 January 1886; this was just under half the number of copies which were published in wrappers. Beinecke 347.
Octavo. Half-title. 2 ad leaves at end. Original olive green cloth lettered in gilt, top edge gilt (light wear to spine ends, minor rubbing to tips). Provenance: Clara Harriman[?] of Cleveland, Ohio (pencil ownership inscription to f.f.e. dated December 1889). Custom quarter calf clamshell box.
