Reconnu comme l’un des artistes russes les plus importants de sa génération, Oleg Kulik explore les thèmes de l’anthropocentrisme et de l’animalité de l’être humain. Ses œuvres souvent radicales et ses performances extrêmes ont régulièrement suscité la polémique, comme celle du Man Dog en 1994. Elles ont d’ailleurs inspiré la prestation de l’homme-singe, l’une des scènes les plus marquantes du film The Square. Oleg Kulik fait ainsi de ce bestiaire canin une métaphore afin de dénoncer la condition et la place de l’artiste dans la société post-soviétique, et afin d’interroger les hommes, à la manière de la tradition littéraire russe. Oleg Kulik est notamment présent dans les collections du Centre Pompidou.
