專家說明

The present pair of vases is directly comparable to a pair illustrated in a photograph of King Faud’s study at Ras al-Tin Palace, Alexandria for which François Linke supplied an enormous amount of furniture, lighting and objets d’art following the formation of the Kingdom of Egypt in 1920 (see C. Payne, François Linke: The Belle Epoque of French Furniture, Woodbridge, 2003, p. 289, pl. 300). They can be attributed to Linke on this basis. Interestingly, the pair of vases illustrated in Ras al-Tin Palace appears to be in the same striped Cipollino marble as those used to create the present lot.
