Jacob Boreel Jansz. (1711-1778) occupe successivement les fonctions de conseiller et avocat fiscal de l'amirauté d'Amsterdam puis de ministre d'État avant d'être nommé ambassadeur extraordinaire en 1761-1762, envoyé à Londres pour porter plainte devant le parlement au sujet des attaques dans la flotte hollandaise faisait l'objet.
Le présent pastel est une réplique d'un portrait de Jacob Boreel représenté plus âgé mais dans la même position, conservé au Stichting Familiefonds Boreel aux Pays-Bas (inv. no. 2, IB 32710 ; D'Armoult, op. cit., no. 341 Pa, ill.).
Jacob Boreel Jansz. (1711-1778) held the positions of counselor and fiscal lawyer of the Amsterdam Admiralty, and later that of
state minister, before being appointed ambassador extraordinary in 1761-1762, and sent to London to file an official complaint before the Houses of Parliament regarding attacks against the Dutch fleet.
The present pastel is a replica of the portrait of Boreelat the Stichting Familiefonds Boreel (inv. 2, IB 32710; see D'Armoult, op. cit., no. 341 Pa, ill.). He is here represented in the same position as in the earlier work, but at a younger age.
