SYDNEY HARPLEY, R.A. (1927-1992)

The model for the present work was Babette Hayes. When first exhibited in cement fondu at the Royal Academy in 1955, the critics declared Girl Asleep in a Chair to be an ‘enchantment in cement’ and ‘this year’s most notable exhibit’.

We are very grateful to the Estate of Sydney Harpley for their assistance in cataloguing this work.
