專家說明

The commode displays a number of constructional and stylistic features associated with workshop of Thomas Chippendale (d. 1779). The use of a red wash on the underside and some secondary timbers, the laminated blocks behind the bracket feet and the canted drawer stops are all found on provenanced Chippendale pieces, while the cusped quatrefoil panel to the canted angle corresponds to several designs in the 3rd edition of Chippendale’s Director (1762) including pls. XIX, XXV and XVII and featured among pieces supplied for both Nostell Priory and Paxton House on the late 1760s and 1770s.
