Patek Philippe. A fine, rare and attractive 18K gold wristwatch with black dial

Entirely fresh to the market, this reference 96 was purchased by the grandfather of the present owner at the prestigious jeweller Daguzé in Nantes, France, in 1937 to celebrate the birth of his daughter, the mother of the present owner. It has remained in the family ever since and is preserved in very appealing overall condition. The rarity of this "Calatrava" is further enhanced by the black dial, confirmed by the Extract from the Archives.

Available in all metals, Patek Philippe's reference 96 is perhaps one of the company's most iconic watches. When introduced in 1932, its timeless case proportions struck a note and in many ways this first Calatrava model inspired generations of watches afterwards. Popular and in production for four decades, the case incorporates design elements that one associates with Bauhaus, late Art Deco and modernism.
