Pierre-Justin Ouvrié (Paris 1806-1879 Rouen)

The 18th Century house was designed by John James (circa 1672-1746), assistant to Sir Christopher Wren (1632-1723), for the Secretary of State for Scotland, James Johnston (1643-1737). It is now known as Orleans House after Louis Philippe I, Duc d'Orléans (1773-1850) who lived there from 1815 to 1817 during his exile from France. He became King of France in 1830 and reigned until 1848. The house was partially demolished in 1926/7 and the surviving buildings are now open to the public.
