The most sumptuously adorned clock in the collection is without a doubt the Sablier aux Chimera (Hourglass with Chimera) which takes its inspiration from Greek mythology. Four chimera – a mythical creature with a lion’s head, a goat’s body and a serpent’s tail - made of lapis lazuli and embellished with diamonds, yellow diamonds and rubies, entwine their bodies around the rock crystal which in turn is mounted on a diamond-set turquoise marquetry base. This alluring combination of contrasting materials, forms and colours represent an epitome in artistic expression among Cartier’s horological creations.
