專家說明

Although stylistically this dining table would appear to date from the early part of George III’s reign, no evidence of this form exists prior to the 1790’s. Two designs for pedestal dining tables by Gillows in their Estimate Sketch Books, one for Lord Eglinton and another for Lady Blount (reproduced here) show that as with the present table, they were not made with leaves. A closely related dining table was sold from the Samuel Messer Collection at Christie’s, London, 5 December 1991, lot 127.
