專家說明

The inscription on the reverse probably relates to Henrietta Smith, the daughter of Colonel Pownall Phipps of Oaklands House, Tipperary and his wife Anna, daughter of Major Robert Smith of 3 Neuve de Berre, Paris. Henrietta Phipps was brought up in France and married Lt. Col. William Smith in 1885.
A commode of similar shape and style stamped M.C., was in the Sydney Lamon Collection, sold Christie's, London, 29 November 1973, lot 100. Several similar commodes by Etienne Doirat are in the Residenz, Munich.
