Tasting note: Reddish tawny colour at the centre surrounded by a broad amber rim. Although the wine is almost four decades old, the nose is still very youthful, full of ripe red berry and raspberry jam aromas. A discreet marzipan nuttiness and delicate floral scents emerge as the wine opens up in the glass. The wine’s freshness and youth is also apparent on the palate, which is supported by well integrated but noticeably firm tannins. The finish is still lively, delivering fresh berry fruit flavours. A beautifully poised and well balanced Vintage Port, still showing surprising youthfulness and vitality in spite of its age. This is undoubtedly among the best Fonseca Guimaraens vintages of the decade, still showing remarkable stamina.
