ADOM (Association pour la défense de l'oeuvre de Joan Miró) has confirmed the authenticity of this work.
During the early days of the second World War, Miró painted his Constellations, a series of 23 gouaches that captured the frantic feel of contemporary events. A little over a decade later, André Breton composed a set of prose meant to illustrate Miró's paintings. Under the guidance of Pierre Matisse, each artist's Constellations were published together in a portfolio (see the following lot). The present lot was a design for what would become the cover of this portfolio. Miró gifted it to his friend and gallerist to commemorate this collaboration.
