專家說明

For more than 30 years Zhou Changjiang has steadfastly continued producing works in his Complementation Series, the point of departure for these works being 'the doctrine of the mean' as found in Eastern philosophy. They embody feelings about life and human experience, as Zhou shapes and arranges forms on the canvas based on complementary relationships. Spatial and coloristic elements, in Zhou's compositions, create rhythms and tonalities of feeling, in which the ever-present images of traditional Eastern art combine with an awareness of abstract aesthetics.

Calm blues form the basic color palette of Complementation 13.10. Within its stable composition, Zhou explores transformations emerging between balance and conflict. The changing structures of the work generate changing relationships between its colors, its clusters of masses, and its textures, making the pictorial space rich with a sense of the fluctuation and change of this boundless universe. The mutually restricting, mutually complementary relationships in Zhou's work testify to the concept of 'harmonious complementarity' derived from Chinese philosophy.
