Norman Rockwell (1894-1978)

In 1975 The Franklin Mint commissioned Norman Rockwell to produce a series of drawings titled The Joys of Childhood to be turned into fine hand-cast and finished porcelain figurines. The Joys of Childhood, Rockwell's first and only commission for drawings to be turned into three-dimensional figurines, consisted of ten original works. The 1976 advertisement for the series describes the figurine resulting from the present work as: "A child in a clown costume and mask eagerly prepares to go 'trick or treating' on Halloween night" and describes the scene as one of the most joyous moments of childhood "portrayed with the unmistakable magic of one of the greatest artists of our time."
