專家說明

As Mayor of Moscow from 1865 until 1891, Prince Vladimir Andreevich Dolgorukov (1810–1891) heavily modernised Moscow and its nearby regions. He created Red Cross centres during the 1877-1878 Russo-Turkish war and introduced gas lighting and clean water supplies. Under his leadership Moscow hosted many cultural and industrial exhibitions and became one of the most vibrant cities in Russia at the turn of the century.

The present cigar box was commissioned in 1875, the year Vladimir Dolgorukov celebrated his ten year jubilee as Mayor. It was most likely a gift for the occasion. Dolgorukov received great recognition for his achievements and was awarded the title of 'Honorary Citizen of the City'.
