Gilt-finished two-train movement, verge escapement with foliot and hog's bristle, C-shaped stackfreed, striking on one hammer onto a bell, gilt brass dial, outer chapter ring with engraved Roman numerals and twelve touch pins, engraved inner 24 hour (13 to Z4) Arabic divisions with German "Z" for numeral "2", pinhole for setting the striking, engraved foliage decorated centre, single blued steel hand, large tambour-shaped case, hinged front cover pierced with twelve heart-shaped openings to reveal the hour markers, central aperture for the setting of the hand, pierced foliage decorated band, back with pierced and engraved floral and foliage decoration, unsigned

Most likely made in Germany, the movement of the present watch employs a so-called stackfreed, a simple spring-loaded cam mechanism used in some of the earliest spring-driven watches, devised to even out the force of the mainspring and to improve timekeeping accuracy. Stackfreeds were predominantly used in clocks and watches made in Germany from the 16th to the 17th century, before being replaced by the fusée. The term may have been derived from the German expressions "stark" for strong and "Feder" for spring.
