專家說明
During the Centennial year of 1876, Philadelphia was host to a celebration of one hundred years of American culture and industrial progress. Officially known as the International Exhibition of Arts, Manufacturers and Products of the Soil and Mine, this was the first major World's Fair to be held in the United States. The most enduring accomplishment of the exhibition was to introduce America as a new industrial world power, and to showcase Philadelphia as a center of culture and industry. Exhibited at the centennial, The Two Kings: Corn and Cotton demonstrates Elizabeth Remington's gift as a still life painter, paying careful attention to detail, color and form. More importantly, Remington creates a lasting tribute to America's powerful agrarian society at the dawn of the Industrial Age.
