Circle of Frans Floris (Antwerp 1519/20-1570)

The present composition is very close to that in a drawing of Diana and Actaeon by Floris at Christ Church, Oxford. With their small heads, elongated bodies and long, thin legs, the figural types are extremely comparable. The Oxford drawing is a preparatory study for a painting whose location is presently unknown (for the drawing, see C. van de Velde, Frans Floris 1519/20-1570, Brussels, 1975, no. T 51, fig 150; for the painting, see van de Velde, op. cit., no. S 164, fig. 88).

An alternative attribution to Hans Ullrich Franck (1603-1675) has been suggested.
