A late 19th/early 20th century silver gilt, chrysoprase and ruby collar
The collar composed of slightly curved rectangular panels with ropework borders, the front five set with square, rectangular or cushion shaped chrysoprase single stones with foiled cushion shaped ruby accents, to a series of panels each set with four vari-shaped and cut chrysoprase with foiled ruby accents, each terminal with clip fitting to reverse, necklace fittings deficient, necklace detached, 44.0cm long, with fifteen pear shaped green hardstone drops, each black and white enamel cagework base with foiled ruby accent, beads 2.9cm long; all in fitted case, case fitted for sixteen beads

The collar was formerly the property of Alexander Esterhazy (3rd October 1868 - 3rd January 1925) a member of the Hungarian Esterhazy family that had origins in the Middle Ages. Since the 17th century they were among the great landowner magnates of the Kingdom of Hungary, during the time it was part of the Habsburg Empire and later Austria-Hungary.
