‘The piece has a complexity which interests me ... Once again though, it’s not that the pieces are the consequence of a system - the system is a result of the my practical determinations about the limits and boundaries of pieces. That is - the practical three dimensional decisions come first and the system just describes the limits of those decisions’ (F. Sandback in Letter to Erik Mosel, 9 December 1974).
