Shell-shaped and on oblong foot with canted corners, the border and foot chased with foliage, with a dragon stem, the handle chased with scales and capped with a grotesque mask, applied below the spout with a mask, engraved with arms in a lozenge

A number of similar cream jugs are recorded, most of which are unmarked, but all those which are bear the maker’s mark of David Willaume II. An example of a similar form marked by David Willaume sold, Christie’s, London, 27 October 1992, lot 375. An unmarked example was sold, Christie’s, London, 27 April 1983, while three other unmarked examples of similar form were sold from the collection of the late Hilmar Reksten, Christie’s, London, 22 May 1991, lots 90-92 and another Christie’s, New York, 21 April 1998, lot 232.
