Sous le socle une étiquette rapporte l'information manuscrite suivante: "William Ashley, born in Abderdeen, has constructed this little ship with ivory, a perfect copy of the Northumberland, on which he has served when he conducted Napoléon at St Helena and on which he came back in the port of Southampton, the month of April 1817" ; une première invraisemblance dans ce texte est que le modèle est en os et non en ivoire, une deuxième est que le bâtiment qui transporta Napoléon à "St Hélène" en 1815 était bien le "Northumberland" mais qui était une frégate
