19TH CENTURY
An openwork gilt-metal desk seal, the bloodstone matrix carved with cypher and coronet, the top of the wirework stem set with five lapis cabochons; a gold-mounted agate desk seal, circa 1805, the sard matrix carved with a lozenge coat-of-arms with marquess' coronet above, with fluted and reeded mount together with a gold-mounted desk seal, circa 1830, the bloodstone matrix cut with a marquess' coronet and initial L, with chased floral mount, the tapering stem set with panels of polished agates and malachite

3 in. (7.5 cm.) high, 2½ in. (6.3 cm.) high and 2 in. (5 cm.) high, respectively

專家說明

The first seal is cut with the initial V with Earl's coronet above probably for George, 2nd Earl Vane, later 5th Marquess of Londonderry (1821-1884).
The arms of the second seal are those of Stewart quartering Cowan impaling Pratt quartering Jeffreys, for Frances, (d. 1833), Marchioness of Londonderry, daughter of Charles, 1st Earl Camden (1713-1794), second wife and widow of Robert, Ist Marquess of Londonderry (1739-1821) whom she married in 1775.
