Reference 6536/1 was launched in 1956, shortly after the introduction of the reference 6538. The most notable differences between the two Submariner models are the size of the crown and the triangle on the bezel - while the reference 6538 features a large screw down crown and red triangle, the reference 6536/1 features a smaller screw down crown and silvered triangle.
The present reference 6536 is a rare and early example of the Submariner model, featuring the very first depth rating used by Rolex, the printed "100/330". This style is known to exist on a very small series of this reference only, while later models featured the more common 100m=330ft printing. The present watch also features on the inside of the case back a stamp "II.56", indicating it was produced in the second quarter of 1956.
