FIRST EDITION of this verse comedy 'notable for being the first play written entirely in hendecasyllabic verse (the "superbissimum carmen", as Dante called it) and also for introducing the daring innovation of stretching the action over a whole year's time' (Leonard M. Scinto, A Selection of books). Following the author's dedication to Cardinal Ippolito de'Medici there is a long and interesting introduction by the great Dante scholar, Cristoforo Landino, in which he 'svela l'allegoria della favola'.
