拍品 85 Founded in 1874 by Georges Piaget in La Côte-aux-Fées, Piaget rapidly became the specialist for the world's thinnest watches and the unique style of cases and bracelets in 18K gold or platinum, the only case materials the firm allows to enter its workshops. The company is a pioneer in the realm of watches embellished with gemstones and using lapis lazuli, coral, mother-of-pearl, tiger's eye and onyx in an amazing symphony of dials which appeal to customers increasingly eager for colour and variety.
In the 1970's whereas many luxury watch manufacturers began to focus on sports watches, Piaget, rather to compete with these manufactures, explored other styles, and instead dedicated efforts to producing dress and jewelry watches, carving its own niche, producing some of the most aesthetically pleasing designs with always extremely sophisticated in-house made movements. Still today Piaget is known for its extravagant style and its graceful and elegant timepieces are visual masterpieces that are guaranteed to be admired.

The present dress watch must be considered one of Piaget's most attractive and lavish design's from the 1970's. The large rounded cushion-shaped case is highlighted with four baguette-shaped sapphires and completed with unusually large and tapered wide baguette-cut diamonds. Another noteworthy feature underlining the lavishness of this masterpiece is the clasp which is fully pavé-set with diamonds. Interestingly, there are no traces in the records of Piaget indicating that the watch was made with this bezel and bracelet. Consequently, one can assume that it was made to special order, possibly outside the Piaget workshop.
To the best of our knowledge, no other example of such model has been offered at public auction underlining the rarity of the present piece.
