A CHINESE FAMILLE ROSE BLACK-GROUND FIVE-PIECE GARNITURE
YONGZHENG PERIOD (1723-1735)
Comprising three baluster jars and covers and two beaker vases, each finely and brightly enamelled with quatrefoil panels depicting two figures on a bridge crosssing a river in an extensive hilly landscape, alternating with floral panels of peony, peach blossom and daisy, all reserved on a black ground with densely scrolling chrysanthemum flowers and green foliage, a band of deep puce lappets encircling the feet and necks, the domed covers surmounted by seated Buddhist lion finials, with partially illegible label inscribed: Beatrice Flancard(?).
The vases and covers 18 in. (46 cm.) high, the beakers 14 in. (35.5 cm.) high (5)

Most probably acquired circa 1910 by the philanthropist and collector Ogden Mills (1857-1929) for his Parisian residence, 73 rue de Varenne, inherited by his daughter, Beatrice, the Countess of Granard, and by descent in the family.

專家說明

A pair of almost identical vases and covers from Lord Granard's Collection is illustrated by G. C. Williamson, The Book of Famille Rose, London, 1927, plate LIV (bottom).
