Each painted with a smoking Indian figure seated under a large tobacco plant, beside a tobacco jar and cover, each jar numbered, with a barrel and a box with the conjoined VOC monogram to the side, with ships in the distance, each with stepped conical brass cover

During the second half of the 18th Century various tobacco jars were ordered by the V.O.C.. The jars were often painted with the name of the variety of tobacco, with the coat-of-arms of the town or with scenes related to tobacco production and trade.
